Names

I always find it fascinating the way names come into and out of fashion.  For instance the five most popular boy and girl names right now, here in the States, are:

1LiamEmma
2NoahOlivia
3MasonSophia
4EthanAva
5LoganIsabella

Yesterday when I was reading Modern Mrs. Darcy post about favorite links I found a link to find out what my name would be if I had been  born in each decade.  When I was born my name was the 21st most popular name.  So using that they showed the 21st most popular name for each decade.  Here's what I would have ended up with:

My name today would be
Grace

My 2000s name is
Alexandra

My 1990s name is
Crystal

My 1980s name is
Erica

My 1970s name is
Barbara

My 1960s name is
Laurie

My 1950s name is
Marilyn

My 1940s name is
Ann

My 1930s name is
Marjorie

My 1920s name is
Edith

My 1910s name is
Lucille

My 1900s name is
Sarah

My 1890s name is
Cora

Grace, Alexandra and Erica would have been ok, the rest of these names I would have hated.  What would your name be if you had been born in a different decade?

  1. I don't know what my name might have been--when my mother chose 'Sharon' it was apparently quite uncommon.

  2. I couldn't find the link but I also like the name Sarah - I have two sons but if I had a daughter I would have called her Victoria.

  3. I was born in the forties and am Joanne, but according to my mother, that is a diminutive of John, for my father. So is Janet. So is Janice, my sister. That's all I know about names.

  4. I found the link but it would't work for me so I've no idea about what my 'name' would have been over the years. Names are fascinating aren't they? I've always liked Laura as a girls name:)

  5. "Crystal"!!!

I can just picture her in a "Dallas"-style outfit with big pouffy hair, shoulder pads, and sequins.

    :D

At least most of the current popular ones sound classy.

  6. A friend of mine posted this on Facebook and my name today would have been Mya I think we dislike names from a certain era because they don't feel "right", they are either too young or too old.

So, do I have to call you "Grace" now? ;)

    Have a good day,

If I was a boy I would have been Josef or Matthew/Matias. But I was named after an Aunt Marisol, she was called Maria in everyday life so I became Sol.
