A Pooh Tale and It's Not About Winnie

We are lucky enough to have a large garage and we park both of our cars in it to protect them from the elements.  During the day the door is usually open as Mac works outside a lot and is in and out of the garage frequently.
Lately there has been a problem.  A Mockingbird has decided the garage is his.  He flies in sits on the car mirrors and poohs all over the place including the top of Mac's car which is a convertible.  So now we keep the door closed.  But this has not deterred him.  We have 2 windows in the garage and he has tried flying into them, with a thud.  So we've closed the blinds so they won't look open.  This makes for a very dark garage.
We have checked the garage to make sure the bird didn't have a nest in there that it was trying to get to, wouldn't want that to happen.  But there is no nest in there, we just have a bird who is a real pooh head.

  1. I love this story - birds are so determined aren't they? Nothing seems to have deterred him from trying.

  2. This is a great story.
Maybe put a bird house (old box or a old tire the garage smell) a nest, some bread to get him away ?
Or would that make a bigger problem ? Like more pooh.
And he is an old pooh head.

    cheers, parsnip

  4. I've only ever seen a mockingbird once here in town, so I personally would be thrilled to have one visit me! But I can see how the poop could be problematic. Maybe he's scouting out a nesting site, and he'll move on when he realizes he's not able to get into the garage (or he'll build outside somewhere). Good luck!

  5. I'm hope I'm laughing with you and not at you! We had some barn swallows that took up nesting in our enclosed entry. It's 16 feet up to the top and they would sit on the chandelier hung there and poo right in front of the front door. I bought an Uncle Sam streamer type flag and tied it to the chandelier. It scared them for a short while. Someone said to scare them with the sound of a gun, so hubs bought a pink BB gun (so the neighbors wouldn't think he was walking around with a real one since BB guns do look so real these days) and when they flew in he would fire the BB gun, which scared them for sure since they've never come back. Hope this works.

  6. To us reading the story it does seem funny!
However, it isn't funny to have a bird pooping all over your car.

Hopefully the bird may move on soon and your garage will be back to normal ...

    All the best Jan

  7. Pooh head? Maybe its narcissist and keeps seeing itself relected in the wmdows. Maybe it just fancies riding along in a soft top, with his best girl by his side...

  8. Ha! I'm with Mike. I was going to say, he's probably having a fantasy about a ride in Mac's convertible!

  9. That's so funny, though I doubt Mac sees it that way with all the mess on the top of his car. I wonder if it's looking for somewhere safe to build a nest.

  10. The other day I opened my garage to take Max out in the morning, and as I walked back towards my house a bat flew out of it, right by my face. The poor thing was in there all night. Hope he ate all the bugs.

  11. I'm not sure what's worse...having the bird poop all over the cars or to wonder every time when opening the door from the house to the garage if this was the time the bird would make a dash to the inside of the house...
