Dithering

Still don't know if we're going to leave or not.  Currently they're saying Irma will be a Tropical Storm when she gets here.  Finally found a hotel in Atlanta that had a room, don't even ask what it cost!  But they take pets at no extra charge.  So I made a reservation.  Then we read the small print and discovered they only take dogs.  So I called the hotel and whoever answered said that was true, but she'd check.  She came back and said sadly dogs only.  Then she said to wait a minute, her supervisor had just said they'd take us and our cat.  What a relief.
We have until 4 pm Saturday to cancel this reservation if we don't need it, so we're still watching all the reports.
We've talked to several of our neighbors and they're going, so we have some decisions to make.

  1. Any possibility you could go a little further north over the Tennessee border? Might get better rate? Either way, be safe and evacuate. I am in SW GA (Albany) and we are being told to expect 45-65 mph substained winds and gusts up to 75-80 mph. I am most worried about tornadoes as we already had those in January, thank you!

    1. The threat of tornadoes worries me too. It was almost impossible to find a room anywhere.

  2. What a dreadful dilemma. We have family and friends in various places in Florida--hard to settle to anything here when feeling such concern for those in the path of the storm. It seems that by the time anyone can be sure they should leave its almost too late to go.

  4. It's comforting to know you have a room! How far will you have to travel? I hope the traffic won't be too bad. I need to go check on Irma's progress. I know Rita made us have to put on a new roof. If Irma veers this way, may have to batten down the hatches here as well. Take care!

  8. Great that they will accommodate you and your pets. I think I would go just to be safe. Harvey really did a job on Houston for so many days it just seems like a good idea to be out of danger. Good luck whatever you decide.

  15. That would be a tough decision to make. I think I would err on the side of caution and go for it (getting out of town). The "better safe than sorry" theory. Good luck with whatever you decide to do! I remember years ago in San Diego we had terrible rain for several days, flooded streets, etc. The city decided to close down the next day when more rain was predicted because so many roads were flooded, etc. Schools closed, businesses, etc. And yep, you are right, not a drop of rain came the next day. But what if it had? The impact would have been potentially catastrophic. Go with your gut.

  19. It's so hard to make a decision like this, based on a storm that can change direction and strength while you're in the process of trying to decide.
