Tropical Storm Cindy isn't coming very near us, she's headed to Beaumont, Texas, but we're getting rain from her anyway. Yesterday I wanted to mow the law, when the weeds are knee high it's not only time it's past time. But before I could get out there it started raining, more than a bit. So I cleaned bathrooms instead. Trust me when I say I'd much rather have mowed the lawn. Then it cleared up a bit so I thought I'd go swimming, got my suit, started to change and then it poured--no swimming.
Today I mowed and it rained on me, not heavy, but enough to get my clothes wet. There was no thunder or lightning so I just kept going. Got it done and by then the rain had stopped so I got in the pool to cool off and to clean it a bit. Nothing like a bit of rain to cool the pool down, the water had been getting pretty warm, but this feels better.
Rereading a book series I really like, it's the Chadwick Family Chronicles by Marcia Willett a British author. It begins with Looking Forward when Flish, Mole and Susan come to live with their Grandmother after their parents and older brother have been killed by Mau-Maus in Kenya. It's a 4 book series and if you like family sagas, as I do, this is a good one.
I finished Broadchurch and I was right about the murderer, but I was a bit surprised with why. I understand there was a second series and a third, hope there's a second and third book, right now there's just some short stories to go with the second series.
I have never understood why people are unable to swim in the rain. After all you get into the pool or the sea and you get wet all over. So what stops you from swimming in the rain ?

DeleteI'm glad that you've avoided the worst of the storm. We are due some bad weather for the next 24 hours in the UK too..but nothing like the powerful storms of the USA. Jx
ReplyDeleteGlad your pool had a chance to cool down. I'm like you ,much rather cut the lawn than clean bathrooms. Glad you worked out who did it in Broadchurch, I'm sure there will be more books. B x
ReplyDeleteA pool would have been good here today, it's so hot.
ReplyDeleteCentral CA is having a huge heat wave....glad we are now South now...hot....but not that hot.
ReplyDeleteIf you like family sagas and haven't read this old series, I recommend my favorite series by John Jakes. His Bicentennial Series about the people starting life in America, which was called The Kent Family Chronicales. It's been a long time so I am buying the books and rereading it. The first book was called The Bastard. Starts the family with the illegitimate son of a French nobleman. Jakes throws in a lot of facts with his fiction, which makes for an interesting read.
ReplyDeleteLike the Yankees in the Revolutionary War were derided by the English soldiers with a tune the English made up called Yankee Doodle Dandy. The Yanks picked up the tune as their own sort of rallying cry and made it very popular. Anyway, I'm sure you would like it if you like family sagas.
Rain not here yet ... tomorrow and on I guess. DH got some of the yard mowed and branches from the last storm are picked up.
ReplyDeleteCindy does look like a feisty one.
I thought perhaps by "swimming" you meant mowing in the rain - which you ended up doing after all! I agree with you about bathroom-cleaning. Mowing (or almost any other job) is far preferable. :)
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about you and how you're doing with this latest storm. I'm going to clean my bathrooms tomorrow :( haha. It's been so hot and dry here. Stay safe and keep dry. Pat xx
ReplyDeleteIt must be great to have the swimming pool and the opportunity to swim at home. We would love to have that facility in our Italian garden, but have to be content with a portable to help us cool down this Summer. We're waiting for storms to come our way. I welcome some rain to clear our humid weather, but not the lightening. Have a good day!
ReplyDeleteI am not a fan of bathroom cleaning either, but strangely mine was given a good clean yesterday too.
ReplyDeleteIt seems our three day heatwave is done. The highest temperature for forty years has cooled dramatically and rain is on the way. What the heck happened to our summers? For three days I wished I had a pool to cool down in.
ReplyDeleteGlad you were able to get your lawn mowed after all and that the rain cooled your pond down. We have cooling rain here today which is good for the garden but I won't be able to hang washing outside and I'd just got used to doing that again:)
ReplyDeleteOk so I have to admit I love having a hurricane named after me. It's kind of fun. But I don't like the damage that hurricanes and tornadoes and bad weather does. We have had one of the rainiest seasons of spring that I can ever remember. And right now it appears to be going right into summer. Glad you got your lawn mowed. Nice you have a pool to cool off in! Hope you see some sunshine soon!

We've had very hot weather in most parts of the UK which usually results in thunderstorms ...
ReplyDeleteGlad you managed to mow the lawn and get a swim in.
Also pleased finished Broadchurch
All the best Jan
Lots of rain here, too, and accompanying humidity. Yesterday we tried to get our beach walk in before the rain but it came early and caught us out. Every time I go outside my glasses steam up!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you are making the best of it! I love warm summer rains. x Karen
ReplyDeleteLittle Buddy and I have been in the pool several times this summer as it has started to rain. He gets a big kick out of it. I think we are getting bands from that storm tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteWe got some rain from Cindy, too, but it looked just like all the other rainy days we've been having.
