Autumn

We're having the most beautiful Autumn.  Cool, almost cold, crisp nights and warm, around 70º, days.  Could definitely use some rain, have had virtually none since Matthew, Mac has had to water many of the plants which is almost unheard of here, we should be getting rain a couple of times a week.  In northern Georgia the drought is so bad they're having forest fires.
But here it's nice.  While out shopping on Sunday we went to a plant center and picked up more Chrysanthemums, they were very reasonable $2.99 and so big!  We bought about 7 of them.
Enjoy the colors.

My poor lemon tree only managed 3 lemons this year, but I still have some in the freezer from last year.

  1. The chrysanthemums are beautiful and great at this time of year for brightening up a dreary garden. I love the beautiful yellow one.

  3. Very pretty post today.
Cut that lemon tree back this spring, water and feed i t. Does it get enough water. Put in some new soil and if it freezes this winter cover it.
I used to have a small grove of citrus but a hug cold snap from Canada destroyed most of them.

    cheers, parsnip

  4. Such pretty flowers! It is scary to think about the drought affecting areas back there and the wildfires happening. Somehow I don't equate the East Coast with fires, seemed more like a West Coast Southern California thing to me.

    1. Last year we had lots of lemons and I didn't know what to do with them and someone told me to slice them and freeze them, so I did, and they're still good.

  6. I love chrysanthemums at this time of year, Mick's uncle grows them on his allotment and always keeps my vases well stocked. The yellows are my favourites.

  8. Your 3 lemons give me hope! Our tree is about the same size but only has given us a couple buds which I think the squirrels might have eaten.
We had our first rain since Matthew Sunday. Practically went out and danced in it! Lots of smoke here from the fires in GA, NC, and SC and it's still hanging around.

    1. Last year we got lots of lemons, don't know what the problem was this year. The orange tree never gives us more than one or two.

  9. Your flowers look great! Mine aren't doing so well. I live in western North Carolina, so it's really dry right now. I love your white ones with the yellow centers. So pretty.

  10. 'Only' three lemons! That's funny. I'd never manage to grow lemons with my local climate. Well done.

  12. I love the mums leading the way up the steps to your door!

It seems to be normal for citrus trees to have "off" years. We've experienced the same thing - a bumper crop one year, and then next to nothing the following year. Thanks for the tip about freezing lemons!
