It Was Time

Today we did something that we've been talking about for a while.  We sold Mac's car.  It was a Mazda MX5 also known as a Miata.  It was a cutie, but we just never drove it.  It was a 2010 and it had a bit over 13,000 miles on it which means we were averaging a bit over  1800   miles a year on it or a bit over a 100 miles a month.  And considering that we live nearly 10 miles from town it's easy to see that we weren't driving it much.  In fact it was starting to have problems from just sitting around and not being driven.  So we made the smart choice and sold it, sold it back to Mazda.  We'd planned on selling it to CarMax a national company that buys used cars, but we had to have a valve fixed on it first (something caused by it not being driven enough) before we could sell it.  When we told Mazda what we were doing (that's where we were having the work done) they offered to buy it from us and take care of the repair, and considering the repair was going to cost $700 their offer was more than fair.  So now we have one car, mine and my auto insurance is much cheaper.  I'm very happy and Mac will no longer feel guilty about the car just sitting in the garage.

  2. My daughter used to drive a black Mazda MX5. I used to call it her Batmobile. A beautiful car but expensive to run.

  3. It does show that it is important to actually drive cars doesn't it. Hope having just the one is better for you, and if not, you can always get another in the future can't you! Happy driving!

  4. What a smart idea. We have two older cars. Have thought about selling one, or maybe selling both and getting a new used car. Just hate the idea of a car payment. Haven't had one for over 15 years.

  5. We have a similar vehicle that is our Sunday car, took it out yesterday and filled it with gas, the last time we filled up was 2 months ago:)

  6. Sounds like a smart move, we only have one car since Gerard's early retirement like you we were only using one.

  7. Sounds like you got a good deal. I hope to get rid of my car soon, but I delay because, well, I can still drive even at my age. Decisions, decisions!

  10. Wise to sell it if it wasn't being driven that much. Hubby's parents had 2 cars in their last years, though his mom had stopped driving a few years back. The car that wasn't driven did "suffer" from not being driven and when it came time to sell it, it was not in the best of shape for sitting idle and ended up not getting the price it would have gotten if it had been driven more.

The new car we bought a few months back gets driven mainly on the weekends and a few errands I drive during the week. I told hubby he needs to occasionally drive it to work to make sure it doesn't stagnate in the garage. Its 3 months old and I don't think it even has 3000 miles on it.

  11. It's a beautiful car, I bet you were sorry to see it go but better than it sat unused in the garage.
