Five on Friday

Missed last week's Five on Friday, we were in Memphis and this one's going to be a bit of a mess.  Mac has dragged down all my Christmas tubs and I have more or less dumped them on the living room floor.  It looks like a Christmas explosion.
But I'm joining in with Amy at Love Made My Home and hoping for the best.

The  First is that we got our family Christmas presents mailed yesterday.  It cost so much I'm assuming they'll be hand delivered by a messenger,  dressed in 24kt. gold, driving a solid gold cadillac.

The Second is that we got our Christmas tree yesterday.  We always get a real one, I love the smell of it in the house.  We use to get huge ones, but as I've shrunk so have my trees.  Miss Kitty and I have been trimming it, but it's still not done, maybe by tomorrow.  I don't use glass ornaments, all of mine are of resin, so it they break at least they don't shatter.  Mac always ties the tree to the wall.  Miss Kitty has never climbed our tree, though she was up the ladder today looking at it longingly, but in the past we've had cats who felt honor bound to climb it, play with the ornaments and nestle in the branches.

The Third   is that most of the Christmas critters have made it out of the closet and are in front of the fireplace.  We almost never have a fire in this one, we only use this room at Christmas time and it's usually too warm for a fire.  But the Christmas critters like it, so that's fine with them.

The Fourth is that all the supplies for making  cookies and gingerbread people have been purchased. I don't make a lot of cookies, Mac calls them fat pills and limits my output.  I've also gotten the ingredients to  make our pumpkin pie; use  to just buy them, but a couple of years ago my inner Martha Stewart talked  me into baking my own.

The Fifth  is that I haven't gotten my Christmas cards made out yet and that's my job for this afternoon.

That's my Five, hope you all have a great weekend.

  2. Your tree is a lovely shape. I love the Christmas critters in the fireplace. I also like you story of Miss Kitty helping with the tree. One of our previous cats used to whip the baubles off the tree and bat them around the house - we found loads under the sofa after Christmas:)

  3. Wow, so many soft toys that is quite a collection. Fortunately I don't have a lot of gifts to post and the ones I do are usually really small so I don't have to spend a fortune on postage. I must admit I do prefer a real tree and adore the smell but the dropping pine needles drive me insane. Have a great weekend.

  5. A real tree or nothing, is my motto! This year we will have no tree as we won't be spending Christmas here. Yours is very nice and I'm glad Miss Kitty is having fun decorating, too. My Rosie always knocks off all the ornaments up to about 2 1/2 on the tree so she will be missing the tree this year. Have a nice weekend.

  6. What a job. We always have stockings for Santa to fill and a tree he puts presents under, and some cookies are baked and.....I guess we get the spirit.

  7. Oh I enjoyed your "Five". I will make my mom's recipe for English Toffee....do that every year. Also a goodie basket of homemade things for each Family. That 6 baskets, as 2 of our grandchildren are married, so they have become a family.

  8. My husband would call your Christmas critters a Christmas critter family! They look so happy together! Enjoy your Christmas decoration and card writing! I am glad that you explained about the high cost of postage, I wondered why it was so expensive, but I hadn't realised about the gold and the caddy and so on! That makes far more sense, they really should tell you that when they are busy charging a fortune to post your things shouldn't they! Thank you for joining Five On Friday. I hope that you have a great weekend! xx

  10. We are still debating in our house if we can get a tree up this year with three crazy kittens running around and jumping up everything! It does cost a lot to send Christmas gifts and cards but I do think people appreciate it ( especially when they are delivered gold plated and hand delivered!) 😉 X

  11. You have been busy. I love the idea of resin Christmas tree decorations. Lilly loves to swat the tree and the decorations go all over. I hope you have a fabulous weekend. Pat

  12. Making good progress there. It's only Dec 4th, but it almost feels like Christmas is over. Walmart had all their xmas trees taken down except 3, which were on half price clearance yeaterday.

  13. Your tree looks a perfect size :) My tree is fake and now many years after buying it, I wish it was smaller. With inherited furniture from my parents, it's a real squeeze to get it into the living room! I like your stuffed critter pals, and they look very cozy in front of the fireplace. Enjoy your tree decorating with the feline ... and have a wonderful and relaxing weekend.

  14. Sounds like you have been very busy! I know what you mean about how expensive it is to ship packages these days. I had to laugh at how you described it! So nice to have a real tree - they do smell wonderful. Have fun decorating! - Karen

  15. I'm giggling at your first comment - I paid for a parcel to be posted to Australia & nearly felt the need to re-mortgage my house. I love your selection of Christmas animals, they look very cosy by the fireplace x

  17. Such a lovely, Christmassy post!
Postage costs seem to be an issue almost everywhere nowadays, here as well. :)
    Have a great weekend!

  18. Dressed in gold, driving a solid gold Cadillac, you do make me giggle. Sending things to England, I feel like I need to take out a loan! NO KIDDING.
