We don't watch many movies, hate to be preached at and told how bad I am. Love a good comedy, but unfortunately Hollywood has forgotten how to make them substituting salacious behavior, bathroom humor and just plain dreck for it.
Not surprising when we do find a movie we like it's usually a British one and our latest was no exception. We watched Mr. Holmes with Ian McKellen playing an aged Sherlock Holmes slipping slowly into senility, but wanting to remember his last case.
It was beautifully photographed, the acting exceptional and altogether a wonderful movie.
At the end we both had tears in our eyes and that doesn't happen very often.
I saw this movie and I loved it! The setting was beautiful, too. I hope your weekend is off to a great start. Pat :)
ReplyDeleteI so agree with you.
ReplyDeleteIt is hard for me to go to a movie. The walking, stairs, sick people sneezing, people talking and as you say the preachy.
But I do go out if I really want to see the movie on the big screen, like The Martian or Star Wars.
Oh of my favorite movies was "the Kings Speech" There was one part where they are talking against a blue painted wall with a patina of age. That beauty has stayed with me.
Thank you for the review of "Mr. Holmes" must put it on my list.
cheers, parsnip
Thanks for reminding me, we do want to see Mr. Holmes.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a movie I'd like. I'm with you re today's movies. There are very few I would be interested in seeing.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good movie:) I think the sitcoms have all gone to the dogs with their potty humor...hardly family viewing:(
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed it - thanks for the review I shall look out for it x
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen that movie, but good thing you enjoyed it. Warm greetings!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this film it was one of two DVDs we bought a couple of weeks ago and decided to watch this one first. I thought the acting, settings infact everything about it were wonderful. The other was A Little Chaos which we have still to watch and it will be sad to watch it now:)
ReplyDeleteYes, I found it very moving too.
ReplyDeleteWe are not movie goers either. The last two movies we saw at a theater were...wait...ET, and a silly Jim Carey movie, Pet Detective. The only reason we went to the last one was because is was playing in the very old movie theater down town. Not long thereafter the old theater closed. I totally prefer the British movies too.
ReplyDeleteAh, have not watched it yet but have heard very good things of it. Thanks for reminding me.
ReplyDeleteAlways good to have a recommendation. We very rarely go the the cinema but did to see the new James Bond. It was good but it took up the whole day what with getting there, parking, sitting through the adverts etc. We went in the daytime but it was dark as we left.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I am becoming old and crotchety,
Thanks for your review. I will be looking for this movie.
