Five on Friday

Quick week, again!  Time to join the other ladies at Amy's Love Made My Home for our weekly get together. I have a bit of a mixed bag this week.

First  a couple of friends who've come out of the closet, not that closet, my closet, to help us celebrate Halloween.

Second is a lovely blown glass pumpkin that Mac gave me.

Third, I really enjoyed the incense we smelled on our trip so Mac got me a bronze bunny incense burner.

Four are some pictures from a "floating" village we visited in Cambodia.  Houses built on stilts to deal with rising waters.  The water was so dirty it was scary, our guide said don't touch and eat anything when we visit the village.  Mac and April went on a smaller boat to go among the mangroves, I did not.  A bit awesome and a bit awful at the same time. The people of Cambodia have been through so much and I hope, though I don't have a lot of faith in their government, that some of the tourist dollars flowing into the country will manage to get down to the people who need it and help improve their lives.  We didn't buy souvenirs from children as we'd been told that if we did that they wouldn't go to school and education was what they needed.  Our guide was very clear on this.

Buddhist Temple

And Fifth was our visit to the wall of elephants at the site of the old royal palace.  It was wonderful, but by the time we got there the heat was overpowering and though I would have loved to have walked atop it, I just couldn't

That's my five, hope you have a great weekend.

  5. I can understand your reluctance to go in the little boat around the mangroves. I felt the same in a little boat in Kashmir, but everything was OK, it was all in my imagination.
Love the wall of elephants what a vivid imagination the people who built it had.

  8. In 1975 my husband and I traveled to Asia to work on adopting our oldest son. We were warned to only drink bottled water, but still had problems, so I think you were very brave to visit Cambodia. My youngest son in law has a younger brother in his 20's who has committed to living in Cambodia permanently and working there to do what he can to help the people living there and has had some serious challenges healthwise. Thanks for sharing some of your adventure, Janet.

  10. Hello,again,Mac!
You had a wonderful trip to Cambodia! And I understand it was a bit scary in the boat but it must be fun. Those vies reminded me of my trip to Myanmar 10 years and 12 years ago. The country was in the difficult time, but we enjoyed beautiful old towns, landscapes and friendly people. We too experienced to ride a small boat! Have a good day!

    1. I meant to add that those houses on stilts scare me...it wouldn't even take a strong hurricane to lift them just a bit. Ugh.

  17. I giggled at bringing friends "out of the closet"! Your friends are adorable. Your trip sounds fascinating. I wouldn't have done well in the heat, either. I've heard about the floating villages. Amazing how man adapts to nature. Have a lovely week.

  26. Wonderful photos of Cambodia. The houses on stilts are very practical, I'm sure, but that water does look dirty. The people there have suffered so much. The elephant wall is so interesting - I wonder what its significance is.
