We were finally allowed home on Sunday, we'd tried to return on Saturday, but the police had the town blocked off as they checked for downed trees and electrical wires. Sunday when they let us in the drive here was scary, many trees on the road. But we got here and held our breath. The first house on our block had a tree laying across its yard and laying on their roof. As we drove up to ours there were trees down everywhere. Huge trees from our neighbor's yard had fallen on our yard and some how missed our house. We had one tree laying against our roof. Inside there were no broken windows. Out back there were more downed trees and some leaning so badly they'll have to come down. One is on our deck and pool, just missed the house and propane tank. The pictures we took don't really show the size of the trees, most were 60-70 footers. Had they landed on the house is would have been destructive. We are so lucky!!! Some of our neighbors have been devastated. A good friend's house is literally covered in downed trees and as we stood talking to them yesterday another fell in their front yard covering their driveway.
Our friend whom we stayed with will be out tomorrow with a chain saw and the clean-up will begin in earnest.
Thank you for all your prayers.
Thank goodness you are safe and not fared too badly but I do feel it for those who have been badly affected.
ReplyDeleteGoodness, such a lot of clean up work to undertake, though you've been very lucky, it could have been a whole lot worse. My heart goes out to everyone who's been affected.
ReplyDeleteThat is certainly going to take some time to clear up, such a mess. I am praying for all those affected by this terrible tragedy.
ReplyDeleteYou've a lot to clear up, for sure, but your house is there--what a blessing--and you are safe!
ReplyDeleteI'm so thankful that you are safe and that your home survived this horrendous storm. Take care as I'll be praying for you. Hugs, Pat

ReplyDeleteI am so thankful for you. My friend who evacuated all the way back to Ohio, isn't allowed back yet. I am sick to my stomach for what she is going to find on Seabrook Island.
ReplyDeleteGlad for you that it wasn't worse, even if it looks "bad enough"... must have been scary!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to see you have lots to deal with, but I am so glad for you that your house is Ok and that you are back home again. I hope you can find someone to come and deal with the trees very soon. xx
ReplyDeleteI am so happy that you're home is fine and missed being destroyed. What a clean -up.

ReplyDeleteSo good to hear the damage wasn't worse. You are lucky, trees that huge cause so much destruction. No water in your house is a good thing:)
ReplyDeleteJanet, so sorry about the mess, how horrible. But you and your husband are safe and that is the most important thing.
