Breakfast in America,

This was the first song on my MP3 this morning, nice bouncy one to get me going.  Made me think about what we do have for breakfast, Mummy dear, Mummy dear.

Around here it's rather a light breakfast.  We have coffee, black for me with no sugar (hate the taste of sweet coffee) and a little dab of Irish Cream for Mac.  Then it's toast made with my homemade honey wheat bread.  I have butter on  mine, no jam, hate the taste of anything sweet in the morning.  Mac has butter, peach preserves and cinnamon.  That's about the only time of day he likes sweet stuff.  Then it's a small glass of low calorie orange juice.

That changes when we travel.  There is nothing like getting in a car to make me hungry.  Then I want eggs, potatoes, toast, maybe even some pancakes, Mac likes sausage.  But that's not an every day event, we'd look like blimps if we ate like that everyday.

What's for breakfast at your house?

  1. Ah well, I am one of those bad people about breakfast! Sometimes a slice of bread and butter, more often nothing... Unless we are a hotel - rare!

  2. Breakfast is always something with eggs ...
Be they scrambled, poached, fried or boiled!

    Some bacon or sausage-
    Some mushrooms or tomato-

Always a cup of tea for me too!

    All the best Jan

  3. I always drink ice tea for breakfast...winter too. I've never had a cup of coffee in my life. I hate the smell of it.

  4. Our breakfasts have changed with retirement. For years I never drank coffee, only tea. Now I have one--and only one-- cup of coffee and a cookie--I know--sigh!
Mid-morning we have something substantial--maybe with potato, eggs, turkey bacon--at least once a week I make muffins. We usually have toast with homemade bread, citrus fruit if there's any in the house. If I'm in a hurry I have Rice Krispies with a dollop of yogurt.

  5. Toast cereal and tea unless we are away on holiday and then it is a little of whatever we fancy. Take care.

  6. I like oats with fruit for my breakfast, or a cinnamon bagel with salted butter. Just put my headphones on to listen to the song. No kippers for my breakfast :-) Thanks for this uplifting post. x

  8. Breakfast starts with two cups of strong Lavazza coffee with a drop of lactose free milk and no sugar, followed by a bowl of sugar free muesli, seven almonds and a spoonful of lecithin sprinkled on the top and moistened with spring water
    from our own well.

  9. I rarely eat breakfast during the week but I know it's an important meal so I've tried to be good just lately and force myself to eat a bowl of muesli. On a weekend I usually have a later breakfast or brunch, which is usually cooked. I had poached eggs on toast last weekend.

  10. Oh my, my husband is a poached egg nut! I'm okay with a bowl of cereal, however, like you, I love breakfast while traveling!
Happy post and happy day to you!

  11. In Europe, we call this a "Full English" (or Scottish, Welsh, Irish, depending where in the British Isles you are but I have never been a fan of warm food - especially meat - for breakfast. However, I have always loved Supertramp, any of of their songs, so "Breakfast in America" is a favourite. ;)

    Have a great day,

    1. We're Supertramp fans too, saw them in concert in Germany in the early 80's.

    2. Would have loved to see them but i guess they were not in concert somewhere in our area. We did travel for concerts but sometimes it just didn't work out.

Still love them. And have passed on that love to our sons.

  12. Usually 2 slices of toast with marmalade, it has to be shredless and two mugs of tea, one as I get up and the second with the toast. Sometimes I'll have a bowl of fruit with yoghurt on it instead. First coffee of the day for elevenses:)

  13. I eat pretty much the same thing every morning and have for years. Plain yogurt, fruit, raw oats, flax seeds, and a spoon of unsweetened coconut, with a big mug of green tea. A couple times a week The Writer makes us eggs and bacon, yum, yum. Then we have coffee while we read the morning paper. Every day!
