Ok, I understand that I have strange eyes. One eye is so much stronger than the other one that my brain only processes the information from the strong eye. I'm not blind in that eye, the brain just doesn't use it for vision, unless the strong eye is covered up, and even then it's not as strong.
My eyes have always been this way, it's an inherited condition. My Father had it, my older sister has it, my daughter has it. It just is.
I've worn a contact lens on my good eye for about 20 years. It beats wearing my REALLY thick glasses out in public.
Georgia has a law that says you have to have an eye exam each year in order to get a prescription for contact lens. I see a Retina Specialist four times a year for other problems, but this doesn't count. So today I went in for an eye exam at the same place I've been going to since we moved here 14 years ago.
Saw a different doctor, don't know if she's new or not, but she insists that when the contacts come in, instead of me just taking them home with me I have to try it on for her to see.
These are the same contacts I've been wearing for years. She says I have such a strong prescription and such "interesting" eyes it would be better for her to see me wearing them.
I hope she gets a good look, cause next time I'll get them from someone else.
Prehaps she's just making sure that you're getting the right care, there's so much advancement in medicine these days that things seem to change on a weekly basis.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Jo. The doc probably is new; you're interesting and she's interested. Help out her expertise. I see my eye doctor yearly so he can see where my wandering astigmatism has wandered.
ReplyDeleteHow unique! I've never heard of your condition. Really interesting that it is a genetic thing! (Sorry, don't mean to sound enthusiastic, it's probably not that interesting for you).

Since my cataract surgery, my Rx changes from year to year. It was a bad decision to have the guy I did, I think he messed my eyes up worse.
ReplyDeleteOdd. But seems harmless. Or is it just to be able to charge for another office visit?
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of wearing only one lens. It sounds like you have unique eyes. I hope you can find a provider who gives you what you need, but it sounds like you know what's right for your vision needs.
ReplyDeleteYour statement about seeing someone else next time made me laugh. I'm with you on that.
ReplyDeleteMay be she just want to make sure, the contact lens is fine with you..
ReplyDeleteSounds like the dentist offices who only do half a cleaning at a time. Uh...if I don't complain about pain, just get it done and save me another trip and another bill.
ReplyDeleteI'm going with what Jo and Joanne said. You must be intriguing to her. She might be doing some extra research on the side about your condition and wants to have it reach its conclusion that the lens actually does work (though it has for so many years). I got new glasses this past April. I think I see worse now than I did then. I must call the optometrist and make an appointment. Good reminder to do so!

Tiresome for you but she's just keen and interested. I got my eyes lasered over a decade ago so I could ditch the lenses.
ReplyDeleteShe's obviously fascinated with your eye condition and wants to learn from it but its an added irritation for you. I've worn glasses since I was seven yeas old. I tried contacts once but didn't get on with them:)
ReplyDeleteWell I hope the new doctor doesn't make you feel like a freak. Let her know if she's making too much of an issue of your uniqueness. I have problems with hearing and some of the comments made by the technicians in the hearing care office are hard for me to accept.

Hopefully, the eye doctor wants to do this out of an overabundance of caution and care...and not to make money off another office visit.
