No More Dithering

We've decided to stay in our house during the storm.  It's been down-graded to a tropical storm as it passes through here and we think we can deal with that.  Mac tried out the new generator today to make sure he knows how to operate it.  I've been cooking some extra meals.  We'll have a stove, it's propane, even if we lose electricity, which we probably will, but we'll no doubt lose water if the electricity goes out.  So cleaning pots and pans would be a problem.   I've cooked enough food to last for several days.
We cancelled our hotel reservation and I want to give a big thank you to the Westin Peachtree Plaza in Atlanta for offering us a pet friendly stay.  But sadly it looks as though Atlanta is going to be hit by the tropical storm on Tuesday and that's the day we were to check-out.
We've talked to a number of our neighbors, exchanged numbers and we know we're not in this alone. So say a prayer that all goes well.

  1. Please keep us informed as and when you can this side of the world in the UK, of how things are. Big hugs to all.

  2. I saw the path and thought you would be driving just to get into it! Just hoping it stays on track now. Stay safe! Keep us informed!

  3. I hope all goes well and your preparations are adequate. We will get the tropical storm version of Irma also but you are closer and the winds will be stronger. We will be prepared, too. We lose electricity every time someone sneezes on the highway so I'm sure we will be without it during Irma. Take care!

  4. I hope the storm leaves you and your trees alone this time.
It sounds like you have things under control.
Remember when you can to just say "we are OK".

  8. I think (in my layperson, non-weather-forecaster mode) you made the right decision. Atlanta might become a travel nightmare if the storm heads that way. Wishing you best of luck, and yes, let us know that you're OK once the storm is over.

  9. For sure you're on my prayer list. My nephew and his family live in Ft. Myers. I understand that it's an uneasy time for you right now. Good thing you're prepared. Take care. Pat xx

  10. So hope all goes well for you and you are in our thoughts and prayers. Batten down the hatches and a good cup of strong tea always seemed to work for us Brit's in time of crises. Wish you the best.

  11. Good luck to you guys. I think you'll be okay. I'm pretty worried about my 89-year-old grandmother near Orlando, who is apparently staying around for the storm with my uncle and aunt who live nearby. I think this sounds like a terrible idea but they are sure it will be fine. Let us hope so.

  12. There's something to be said for coming to a decision--you know where you are. In our New England years I appreciated having a propane range, although could use only the cooktop when the power was out. I always drew a lot of water ahead of a storm [usually ice that downed power lines there] and by heating on the stove could keep things clean. I also kept a stock of paper plates.
Hope to hear that all goes well for you.
