Of course that means the heat had to be turned off and it's about 38º outside right now. So we, and Miss Kitty, are huddled down in the computer room with a small space heater.
When I blogged about getting the new heat pump several bloggers mentioned they'd gone with the Rolls Royce option of $17,000. Well if we planned on keeping this house for a long time we would have too, but we don't, will probably be selling in the next year of so. Even the guy doing the estimates said it would not be cost effective for us to take the most expensive option, that it would take years to make our money back in saved energy costs. So that's why we picked a less expensive option.
Watched a bit of football this weekend. Boy was that Pittsburgh/Jacksonville game a bit of a shocker.
Not surprised by Atlanta losing, nor by New Orleans' loss to Minnesota. Of course New England beat Tennessee, not much of a game. All the good teams were in the NFC this year.Looking forward to the Minnesota/Philadelphia game, the other game not so much.
Mac is busy wrapping paintings, he's sold 8 paintings since the beginning of January. We thought things might slow down after Christmas. Guess I'll have to chain him up to his easel again.
I'm finally nearing the end of my cross-stitch, if we can warm the family room up enough with just the fireplace I'll work on it today.
Hope you're staying warm wherever you are.
Sorry to hear you will be selling and moving out of your pretty house, but I do understand. That Rolls Royce of systems sounds like it should make you breakfast in bed. No, I agree, you'd never get your money out of it.
ReplyDeleteWow, Mac is really busy! Good for him!
Stay warm!
I'm running a space heater, too.
ReplyDeleteThe Vikings game was a fantastic ending. We were so glad we stuck with it until the end.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you'll be able to save money on your heating repairs. I hope your house is nice and warm for you soon. Our furnace is original to the house (about 37 years old) and runs perfectly, which is so amazing to me, so I'm knocking on every piece of wood I can find. :)
ReplyDeleteI hope your house is warm and cozy by now. We need a new boiler for our heating system soon, not looking forward to this expense!
ReplyDeleteSo glad the contractors turned up early, hopefully you will be warm and toasty by the time you read this. Thrilled to hear Mac is doing so well selling his paintings.
ReplyDeleteWell now at least you have an idea of why I don't like winter! I've lived in this for 59 years. 59 winters...and most of them have a lot of snow, ice, and always cold. One thing I never thought of while building our house is the fact that we will probably never move now because we've put too much blood, sweat, and tears into this place. Oh well...we can rent a place for Jan/Feb/Mar! Congratulations to your husband for selling so many paintings! That has to feel good. Stay warm!
ReplyDeleteCindy
What I meant by never moving is a lot of people up our way move to warmer climates when they retire. We never will but we can move to a warmer climate temporarily. But at the moment, it does seem to be cold everywhere!
ReplyDeleteCindy
I'm glad that they came and put a heat pump..
ReplyDeleteIt is always good to get these jobs done and dusted.
ReplyDeleteBitterly cold here, wind chills near -50 below today. It is good to have heat, I am glad they are getting it fixed for you.
ReplyDeleteWe don't watch football...for us that would be like watching paint dry :)
I'm glad you got your heating fixed! No fun to be without it in the dead of winter. I don't know much about American football I'm afraid.
ReplyDeleteWow, you guys have had an eventful couple of weeks! So glad to know the heater will be fixed soon. Sounds like Mac is financing the new heater with his painting sales! Way to go Mac!
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched any football since the Cotton Bowl :( and the Peach Bowl :). I like college ball better than pro.
Stay as warm as you can. It's 11° here right now, but for us that's a pretty comfortable temp at this time of year.
Hopefully by the time you read this you'll be lovely and warm again, inside the house at least. Mac is doing very well with his paintings. Brilliant.
ReplyDeleteReading stories like yours makes me feel better about living in a town. I am in the heart of England so am protected somewhat from really harsh winters, which means costs can be kept down. Hope your house is warmer now.
ReplyDeleteOh I do hope they got all the work done yesterday and that you are warm and toasty now. I can't believe the weather extremes that you get! We were forecast a bit of snow today but I don't think we're going to get it, which is disappointing because we get snow so rarely now that we get very excited at the mere thought of it. x
ReplyDeleteHope you are now all warm in your house, with everything fixed!
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
I bet you need that new heat pump with these crazy cold days. Good for Mac selling those wonderful paintings.
ReplyDeleteThanks goodness for fireplaces and space heaters!
