The Kitchen Smells So Good!

It really does.  First thing this morning I made a big pot of Chile, part for tomorrow's lunch and part to freeze.  When that was done I started work on Lamb Shanks, they'll be today's lunch.  Braise the shanks, remove, cook carrots, onions and garlic, put the shanks back in, add chicken stock, red wine, rosemary and thyme.  Then let it bubble for a couple of hours before you serve it over mashed potatoes.  You can smell it all over the house.
Washed the slipcover for the couch and realized I couldn't throw it in the dryer, it's line dry only and because it's going to rain off and on all day I can't hang it outside, so Mac took it upstairs to hang in the attic, probably take 2 days there.  Which means we'll probably destroy the couch while it's gone.
Skyped with our daughter this morning, always look forward to our Sunday morning chats.  Except for the fact that Miss Kitty crawls all over my desk and rubs up against the computer, knock things in the floor, gnaws on my hand--gently of course--and anything else she can think of to distract me.  She hates for me to Skype or talk on the phone.  She tolerates the computer, sitting her fine, furry rear on on router, but doesn't appreciate other forms of communication.  We usually end up throwing her out of the room.
Tried to watch Despicable Me 3 this weekend, it was bad, bad, bad and we didn't finish it.  Loved the first one, was ok with the 2nd, but the 3rd says it's time to end the franchise.
We're really enjoying the 3rd series of The Detectorists, watching it slowly because Mackenzie Crook says there'll be no more.  Mac has been investigating places in England where you can spend a couple of day metal detecting, wouldn't that be great.
Hope you're having a good weekend.

  1. Those lamb shanks look delicious , one of my favourite meals. Miss Kitty made me laugh. Cats really hate it when they are being ignored. Both of mine are sitting at my feet giving me the look because it’s nearly their tea time lol. Have a good week. B x

  3. You forked up a long lost memory of something my mother made. It was a far lesser cut of beef, beat the bejammers out of it on a bed of flour, with the meat pounder. Then proceed as above, including mashed potatoes. But, I cannot remember its name, and much as I loved it, I never made it because my husband did not like it.

  6. I hope the slipcover dries before the sofa is destroyed. The lamb shanks look delicious, even to the non lamb eater that I am.

  7. I haven't had lamb in a long time. Had it growing up but never developed a taste for it though. Glad you enjoy it. I didn't watch Despicable Me3 either..I thought 2 was enough. lol

We had a cat that was a lot like that, too. Jealous of any attention lavished anywhere else.

    Have a wonderful night-xo Diana

  8. I didn't know there were two more seasons of The Detectorists. What good news! We loved season 1. My cat has the same "thing" with the phone. She will wake up from a sound sleep at the far end of the house when she hears me talking and try to get between me and the phone. I don't understand it.

  10. Your dinner looks lovely. We don't eat lamb around here, I don't know why. I don't recall eating it.
Haven't looked at Despicable, I will keep your words in mind.
Surely Miss Kitty won't dirty up the sofa so quickly?

  13. Pity smells can't be conveyed on-line. Your description of Miss Kitty's antics are great. I don't think my Charlie cares what I do so long as he can sleep.

  14. Lamb is a favorite. You have made me hungry. Had to laugh at Miss Kitty and Skyping. Callie is funny like that with me and phone calls. She frantically wants out of the house immediately when ever I answer the phone.

  15. One of our cats used to do a similar thing if you were on the computer, she even used to walk in front of the television and sit on the stand and clean her face just to get our attention away from the screen. Glad you are enjoying the Detectorists, one of my favourite progammes:)

  16. Cats...kids...they are all the same. Many years ago (when phone calls to Germany still cost an arm and a leg), I was on the phone with my sister and my oldest tried to get my attention so he climbed on top of the refrigerator.
