Halloween last night, we got 3 Trick or Treaters, even less than last year. My favorite was Jay from State Farm dressed in his khakis and red shirt.
Guess we've got a lot Snickers and Hershey bars to eat, how sad.
Worked in the garden today, second time. It's really a mess and it's going to take forever to get it into shape. We've been watching Monty Don on a Gardener's World (courtesy of Brit Box) and there are NO, NONE, NARY A ONE, weeds in his garden,
We're having Shepard's Pie today, I ordered the spice packet from Amazon.
Reading Bear Town by Fredrik Backman. A story about hockey and what it does to the town of Bear Town and the people in it. It's so good.
NOT A WEED in his garden? LOL Is that possible? Not photoshopped? LOL I have a friend that keeps a weedless garden, too. She works at it all the time though.
ReplyDeleteShepard's Pie sure sounds good!
Have a great afternoon. xo Diana
We had rain all day yesterday, so only about 18 little ones showed up. They got two handfuls each and then some! For the littlest ones I let them dig their hands in and get what they wanted. It's always hit or miss each year.
ReplyDeleteWondering if you've heard of the piece of equipment that burns the weeds? We use TruGreen for our yard, but not real happy with their work this last year. The first year the person who applied the treatment was super...second year, not so much. We have a large corner lot so just can't do it ourselves.
Did Monty have his dogs with him in the garden?
ReplyDeleteYes
DeleteHey! My English mother-in-law, who sadly passed away this year, always said that if you use LAMB, it is Shepard's Pie but if you use BEEF, it is a Cottage Pie. Hey, she was in England, so I will respect that! Whatever you call it, I know it will be good!
ReplyDeleteThe gardens in England...don't get me started! The SOIL for one, they don't call it that, it is EARTH, not dirt or soil, isn't that just right? :-)
I guess technically it was a Cottage Pie and it was good.
DeleteWe live in the country and never have trick or treaters. I did not see nearly as many out last night as previous years. I wonder where they are. Of course, it was raining here and I am sure that kept many in.
ReplyDeleteOne cannot beat Shepherd's Pie. Haven't made it for ages. Here we are, Irish and not making that now and then.
ReplyDeleteI'm still tired after Halloween.. oh! it was a lot of works..
ReplyDeleteNo Trick or Treaters but candy being sent to Japan with some gifts for Mia and her friends.
ReplyDeletecheers, parsnip and badger
I have weeds to die for! Actually I didn't realise how pretty they were until I stopped weeding. I think trick or treat has completely disappeared in my area.
ReplyDeleteSo many churches here have Trunk orTreat events in their parking lots and I think people feel safe taking their kiddos there. Plus downtown merchants have an event from 5-7. In spite of all that, we had 35 cuties come by. We sit out on our decorated front porch and hand out the candy so we can visit. Being a teacher all those years, I still miss kids and love to talk to them!
ReplyDeleteSadly we didn't get any trick or treaters, it is not a holiday that is celebrated very much here. We did get some goodies just in case, but they are always handy for visitors so won't go to waste.
ReplyDeleteWe only had a few here. It is so sad as we used to be the neighborhood to visit on Halloween. Still Little Buddy had fun and that is all that matters.
ReplyDeleteWe never get trick or treaters where we live. It's too far in the country. But when we lived in town, people used to drive to our neighborhood just to trick or treat. So, what we do is go to my sister's house and hang out with them! We sit in the driveway with a firepit going and help them hand out candy. Eat pizza and visit for the evening. It's a fun time. And that's funny you mention Jake from State Farm because we were talking about how someone should have dressed up like him! Guess someone did!

I'd hoped to save the leftover candy for Christmas stockings but we got more than I planned for. You just never know.
ReplyDeleteWe always buy the candy we like so we can have leftovers:) This year we had 12 kids...it was great fun!
ReplyDeleteWell you had three more trick or treaters than we had. :) I've never tasted Shepard's Pie. I've been cleaning up in the garden too.
ReplyDeleteShepherds Pie is a winner!
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
