Five On Friday

Not unlike the white rabbit, I'm late.  Had to go running around town buying things we've been putting off buying.
So for my Five on Friday I'll be joining in with Amy at Love Made My Home and showing you where the money went.
First is for a new dishwasher, ours went out some time last summer and we're just getting around to replacing it.  For 2 people it's just about as easy to wash by hand.  But some day we'll be selling this house and it will need a working dishwasher, in stainless steel to match the rest of the appliances.  It will be delivered next Saturday.
Next we're sprucing up Miss Kitty's bathroom and she is so appreciative.  We thought about replacing the whole vanity, but there's really nothing wrong with it, it's the cheap looking top, sink and faucet that needed replacing.  So that's what we did.  This is the top we bought.
Love the rectangular sink
It didn't come with a faucet so that was our next purchase.
It's in brushed nickel and should look good.

Next up is a new kitchen faucet, something we've needed for quite some time.

Then we saw this at Walmart----an Olive Tree.  We grew them in California, Mac made olives for us---did you know that you can't eat olives directly from the tree they have to be cured.  He cured ours with Drano, can you believe it?
We're going to plant it in a pot and put it in the greenhouse during the winter.  Don't know if we'll ever get olives from it, but we're going to try.

That's my Five, hope you have a good weekend.  Ours will be quiet, we're now broke.

  1. It seems like we do the same thing - fix or replace items in our house right before we sell. Drano and olives? Hopefully you'll explain in your next post. :-)

  2. The olive tree looks like fun. I just assumed the olives were cured in salt. Who knew!
It looks like Mac will have lots of weekend projects to do. Or maybe you are the plumber!

  3. Love the olive tree, but Drano? Really? Hope you get your repairs done and share the process with us. I love to see other people work!

  5. I love the modern look of your updates. The olive tree will be fun to grow I'm sure. But I'm too puzzled about the Drano. My best to you, Pat xx

    1. No, we're not putting it on the market, we still love it, as long as we can climb the stairs we'll keep it.

  7. Hope you have a quiet weekend after your shopping trip. Even a makeover needs thought when it comes to accessories - good choices. Look forward to seeing the result when the project is done.

  8. It does take time to chose these items but a good feeling when all has been replaced. I like the bathroom faucet. We have an olive tree which I bought as a little cutting no more than 12ins high for 99p from Woolworths when they were still in business it is now about 5 feet tall but has never produced any fruits. Never heard of Drano so would like to know what that is:)

  9. What an interesting Five, Janet! Very elegant purchases!
I don't know what happened, but your link on Amy's page took me to a completely unrelated site. Fortunately I found you anyway! :)
    Have a lovely weekend!

  11. That's quite some shopping trip. We had a new dishwasher recently, I couldn't get it plumbed in quick enough, I hate washing up by hand.

  12. Oh, lor we are going to have to buy a new washing machine. I hate changing old friends that I have learned how to use but perhaps we can find a super simple idiot proof one for me. :) You sound like you do your shopping in binges, me too.

  13. Just had to buy a new kitchen faucet yesterday! Ours looks very much like the one you have pictured but ours had white handles. It is by Pfister but was not terribly expensive. Man, you can spend a TON of money on a kitchen faucet, I found out!! :-)

  14. How exciting to get new stuff! I like your vanity top and faucets. It's so fun to pretty up the house with new things. My ex husband makes olives too. It's a very weird process, but they are delicious. I love your header. That painting is so pretty and whimsical.

  15. I'm loving the look of the new sink. I'll stick to buying olives at the deli though. Not sure I could cope knowing they'd been treated with Drano!

  16. We have a dishwasher, but we have never used it. It came with the house. Our kitchen needs serious sprucing up, but money postpones our wishes. Anything to make our home a home. Hope you have a good weekend.

  19. I had to smile - my new dishwasher arrived today. I ordered it last night and I received a text first thing in the morning (4:30am) to say that it will be with us before 4:30am and 6:30am. I have never jumped out of bed so quickly in my life! They turned up at 7:30am!!

  20. Hope that your weekend hasn't turned out to be too too quiet! You will have to let us know how the olives get on, you certainly have warm enough weather to grow them!! Hope that the new dishwasher and sink etc are good when they arrive. Thank you for joining Five On Friday, hope that you are having a good weekend and will have a good Easter too! xx
