Finally Here

Yes, finally, my glasses are here.  They called late Friday and said they were in and that they were open till 5.   We live 8 miles from town and and we never go in for just one thing, so we didn't dash off Friday to pick them up.  There were several things to be done today, in addition to the glasses--box to mail at UPS, paper notarized at the bank and masses of plants to buy, so we waited.
When I tried them on today it was interesting because I was wearing my contact lens.  Notice I said lens, not lenses, I only wear one because my brain only listens to one of my eyes.  So I put the glasses on, closed my good eye and looked with the other (my brain will listen to that eye if the other one isn't available) and said they'd do.  The lovely assistant said they really look nice and I laughed.  I said that with this prescription the lenses look like coke bottle bottoms and I only wear my glasses at night, at home, otherwise I wear my contact lens.
Saying that triggered a memory and when I told Mac about it, I teared up and almost cried.  For when my Mom was dying, before I could get to see her one last time, she kept asking my sisters where the little girl with the coke bottle glasses was.  So sad, but as Mac said, it meant she was thinking of me.

  1. Hi Janet, I don't think they look like coke bottles. They are very attractive glasses and you look very fashionable in them. I'm excited to hear about the plants for your garden. I'm slowing creating a perennial garden and this past week I found a delphinium and foxglove on sale. So far, they are thriving in the poor soil I planted them in. I'm hoping your week is off to a great start. Hugs, Pat

  11. I used to wear coke bottle glasses too. Then I got cataracts and after the surgery my vision is 20 30 and I only need glasses for reading:)

  12. I don't know - those glasses look pretty normal to me. They must have come a long way with optometry, because my husband's glasses used to be at least 1/2 inch thick - really.

  13. They look smashing. I've finally got round to booking my appointment, I go next week, I just hope my glasses don't take as long as yours have to be made. It's funny how something simple can trigger a memory of a loved one, isn't it.

  15. I am so glad you got new glasses, I know how that works, needing glassed all the time. And I think Mac is right, the story with your mother means she thought about you, even if she didn't live in the time anymore.

  18. Those aren't coke bottle glasses at all. I've seen the "real" ones and those aren't it. But, that memory of your mom brings back memories of my father just shortly before he died. Living that far from town might be a little difficult, but there must be some peace and quiet.
