Wednesday in the Swamp

Nice mild day, spent a while in the garden weeding, still lots more to go, but it's looking good.
Trying to figure out why my cabbages haven't formed heads.  They look great, but no heads, should I just pick the leaves and cook them?  Just Googled that and I'm still not sure, but the article said we could eat the leaves anyway, so I see cabbage in our future.
The bell peppers are amazing too, they're from last year and have been producing peppers the whole time.  Mac grew them in pots and kept them in the greenhouse over winter.  He needs to pick some so I can freeze them, I use them a lot in cooking and also like a stuffed one from time to time and Mac fixes that.
Mac bought me the most beautiful lily yesterday.  It was a gift because I had to see my retina specialist.  He wanted to laser my eye, I didn't really want him to, but the pressure was up in both eyes so I let him do it.  He did the left one, my good eye, and will do the other one in a month.  You don't feel anything, just see bright flashing lights.  Scary though, I mean lasers and my eyes, not something I'd think of doing.
Still no new glasses, I'm wondering if my prescription will change before they get them made.  It's been about 6 weeks now.  Don't think I'm going to have this place do my glasses any more, and that's sad, because I've been using them since we moved here 13 years ago.
Exercise time so I'm off.

  1. I'm sure the cabbages will heart up. Give them a little more time. If they don't just eat the leaves that are there. I'm sure you'll have enough to keep you going. Oh no! Cabbage soup again!!!

  3. The cabbages will fill out and then thicken in the centre if left awhile longer. The peppers certainly look good and well worth freezing for later in the season if you have a glut of them. Hope all goes well with your glasses and indeed your eyes. Take care.

  4. Garden veggies, yum, yum. It's been so many years since I planted vegetables, I have no idea how to raise them.

  6. Home grown veggies, yum yum. Not many for me this year now that I've given up the allotment. I can't believe you're still waiting for your glasses, it's been ages.

  7. Over wintered peppers -- I'm impressed! Goodness, that's too long to wait for glasses. I don't think I've ever waited more than a week. Anything done to the eyes is scary, I think. I have had two detached retinas and surgery. Very scary. Anyway, I hope the laser treatment helped and your very pretty flowers cheered you up.

  8. How funny about the heads! And isn't it funny too how they've becomes so ornamental in flower arrangements. Love cabbage everything including in soups, but only eat it when we're out. Have to amend that state of affairs. Hope you're well?

  9. Hope your eye is OK.
When I had my laser surgery done to sew up my eye, it was falling apart, it really didn't "hurt" but it did get hot. He would only do three zapps at a time. It was different and super scary.

    cheers, parsnip
