Another Day, Another Dollar

Up late, Mac let me sleep in, he got up at 7:30.  Have I mentioned how HUMID it is here?  About a 1,000 times probably.  Morning walk was a struggle so we turned the air conditioning on at 9:30, that's almost unheard of for us.  Turned it off for awhile now that the house is bearable.  Got the electric bill, bad, but bearable, Miss Kitty agreed to pay her share of it.
Today's jobs were laundry and mopping.  I don't understand why we have so much laundry, we wear the bare minimum of clothing, yet the hamper over flows.  In the past I've accused the cat of cross-dressing and adding to the load---she swears it's not true.  Well someone's wearing them.  The clothes are going in the dryer, something I hate to do, I actually enjoy hanging out clothes, but the air is so full of moisture that they'd never dry.  So dryer it is.
Then after breakfast it was floor mopping time.  I have an electric mop that steam cleans the floor and boy they needed it.  So for a brief moment the tile floors are clean.
Following on with my today is posts, today is National Book Lover's Day and I'm definitely a book lover.  Always read at least 3 books at a time.  Right now I'm reading:
The Jakarta Pandemic by Stephen Konkoly.   It's a bit of a train wreck and I won't be recommending it to anyone, just want to get through it.  I have The Chilbury Ladies' Choir by Jennifer Ryan  waiting for me, it's a library e-book and I need to get started on it.
I'm also reading Blue Monday by Nicci French.  I usually like her/their books (they're a husband/wife writing team), but I'm having trouble with this one.  I'm tired of "damaged" psychologists/psychiatrists.  This is the first of their Frieda Klein books and unless it picks up I won't be going on with them.
I'm still working my way through Skippy Dies by Paul Murray, teenage boys are beyond my ken, but I'm enjoying the story anyway.  Can't say I'm finding some of the male teachers in the book much more grown up than the boys.
Well, wherever you are find a good book to lose yourself in today.

  1. Only two of us here getting clothes dirty, but we tend toward projects that are hard on garments. I can't bear laundry hanging around so it goes into the washer as soon as I can justify a load. I usually hang things out on the lower porch lines--sometimes the dryer is a better choice.

  2. I am reading Dorthea Benton Frank's "Full of Grace". I just started it but so far-so good. Wish I had even more time to read than I do now. xo Diana

  3. I like the Frieda Klein books by Nicci French. I think there's a new one out but I can't remember which day of the week I've reached!

  4. My washing has increased three fold since Eleanor's come home from uni, it's amazing how much laundry a teenage girl produces.

  7. There was one summer we were without a dryer, and I had to hang the same load out three days in a row and still brought it in feeling like moss might grown on it. :)

  8. A long time ago, I learned that my habit of washing dishes by hand instead of using the dishwasher was actually less economical. My new dryer states a normal family usage for a year of drying clothes will cost $57. Not bad.

  9. I threw a load of clothes in this evening, wearing clothes, hubby's dress shirts/pants for work. Those I put into the dryer, the other stuff I hang up. I went out to get the shirts/pants out of the dryer after about 45 minutes and some of the clothes I had hanged up were in the early stages of drying. Its that hot and dry here, LOL :)

  10. How do you read three books at a time? If I tried to do that the story-lines would get muddled in my head.

  12. I've been into the library today as the latest Stephen Booth book I'd reserved was in and I got two others whilst I there so I'll start reading the Booth later. I have a steam mop too and the tiles always look better when I've used it:)

  13. Do you have to finish the Konkoly? Is that suggestion a travesty?! I have only recently become comfortable with leaving a book if I'm not enjoying it rather than sticking it out to the end and it's tremendously liberating. I don't have a tumble drier so my clothes are always line-dried...except that the line collapsed this week! It's more than twenty years old and I have been asking the Best Beloved to replace it for the last year, but it was a shock and a nuisance when it collapsed with my washing pegged onto it! Take care. x

  14. I usually dry my clothes in the dryer until they are damp, and then hang them on foldable racks that occupy the dining room (where we never dine). I grew up without a dryer, but hanging on a clothesline isn't going to happen now.
