Five on Friday

I feel like it should be FRYDAY, today and tomorrow are going to be 98-99º.  To me that's frying weather.  I convinced Mac to stay out of the yard except to water the garden, it's dangerous out there.
But it's time to join in with Amy at Love Made My Home for this week's edition of Five on Friday, so do go and check out some of the other blogs who are joining in.

My first is from last Friday (if you go from Friday to Friday it's part of this week), we made it to the Marina for lunch and they were open!!!  Mac had mussels cooked in a wine sauce, I don't eat shell fish, but he said they was delicious.  Then we shared an order of Calamari and a load of steamed Shrimp.  Both were fantastic and way too much, so we brought some of them home.

My Second is an incident from earlier this week.  We had headed out for our morning walk when we were dive bombed by a large blue heron who was quite intent on poohing on us.  He came so low and close I could feel the air from his wings.  Mac says it's the one he's always chasing off so he won't eat our fish.  All I know is that he just missed up by inches.

On the left you can see that he covered the street from side to side.  The X in the right picture is where we were.  How he missed us I do not know.

My Third is that we finally got around to watching the third Hobbit movie: The Battle of the Five Armies.  We quite enjoyed it which was a surprise because we hadn't liked the 2nd one in the series and hadn't really planned on watching the 3rd.  But we did and we're glad we did.

My fourth is that I finished the book The Spy Who Came In From the Cold by John LeCarre and loved it.  I read it many years ago, probably when it first came out, but I'd forgotten most of it.  I remember seeing the movie too, so as I read the book I kept picturing Richard Burton as Alec Leamas the "hero" of the story.  Over at Goodreads I give very few 5 star ratings, but this book easily got one.  If you like spy stories this one is the best.

And my Fifth is what I saw when I went out to swim the other day.  Some of my critters had grabbed some beers and were having a pool party.

That's my Five, hope you have a beautiful weekend.

  1. That sea food meal sounds delicious. Lucky you to escape the poo. What a trail he left. I'm just getting into John Le Carre but haven't read that one. Will have to give it a go. Have a good weekend. B x

  3. Poor heron, I bet he was glad to be rid of that lot. Sounds as though he was really caught short! Glad you weren't christened from on high though. :)

  4. Cool pool party for animals! We had a big heat too, today, was horrible -
Thanks for your visit and words for me. In my childhood I've dreamed to have a piano, my father would give it me, but mother broke this dream (thats another hurting story). Today I'm playing only CD's and Vinyls... have a big collection.
Send you a little cool air

  5. Glad you managed to get to the Marina for your meal, glad it was worth the wait. Isn't it good when you really enjoy a book? The critters certainly know how to enjoy the heat, settle down with a beer and enjoy the pool.

  7. I miss having big bowls of peel and eat shrimp and or lobster. The only place that had that near me closed and I am so sad.
Love that some of your critters are having fun in the sun. Even with their fur.

  13. You were lucky to escape the heron. My neighbour was "got" by a heron several years ago and was in a terrible state. The shrimps look delicious. Enjoy your weekend.

  16. Good thing the heron missed you. That would make quite a splat. Your pool looks so inviting. No wonder those furry creatures are having a pool party in this weather! Just trying to cool off, I guess. ;-)

  17. Oh I love your softies out by the pool having a party!!! That is so incredibly cute!!!! I adore softies!!! Glad the heron missed you! I am sorry to be so late visiting, we had a minor domestic drama yesterday - nothing serious in the end, all ok - but I didn't get a change to do any blogging. Thank you so much for taking part in Five On Friday, I do appreciate it! Hope you are having a great weekend!

  18. I'm so happy you mentioned the book. I have it in my collection (it's in box 36 in the garage - hope it's not on the bottom of the stack) and have meant to read it for years. I'll start it tonight. I'm slugging my way through a Delderfield book which I'm finding difficult to finish, but finish I must. If I read 100 pages, I'm committed to suffering through to the bitter end.
