Oh the Weather Outside is Frightful

No it's not snowing, it's frying, frying anything silly enough to be outside.  Please excuse me if I'm a little grumpy today I couldn't get to sleep last night, so I sat on the couch reading till O'3 something in the morning.  Great book, Early Warning, by Jane Smiley---if you like family sagas this is a great one, she's covering 100 years of family history in a trio of books, this being the second.
But back to my grumpiness, because of getting to bed so late and still taking awhile to get to sleep, we slept in this morning.  Miss Kitty came in and yelled at us to no avail, so she laid down on the end of the bed and joined us.
It was well past 8:30 by the time we got up and near 85º outside and around 82º in the house.  So the walk was short and not particularly sweet.
We had to make a veggie run today, I was out of most stuff.  We always eat salads, but come this time of year we eat main course salads with chicken, beef or shrimp in them  Also have shish kebabs of meat and fresh veggies, particularly mushrooms and Videlia Onions.
Yesterday was the chicken salad, today leftover chicken, rice and a kidney bean salad, tomorrow steak sandwiches, Thursday hot dogs and Friday we're trying to get to the Marina for shrimp, I may even shave my legs again.  This time of year I try to use the stove as little as possible.
Today is hotter than yesterday and it was 95º then, but it looks like thundershowers are on the way so maybe a little relief.

  1. I can never get to sleep when it's hot and it's never as hot as you're experiencing so I do sympathise. Hope you manage to sleep better tonight.

  2. May I enquire as to whether you have any insulation or double glazing in your house, for the difference between outdoor and indoor temps - suggests not.
I know that we are lot cooler than where you live, but when we have a hot day then the difference between our outdoor and indoor temp is a lot greater than yours ?

    1. I assure you we have both double glazing and tons of insulation. It's just hot and unless you run your air conditioning night and day your house gets hot. I refuse to run it might and day. Our house is all electric and we try to be frugal with it.

  3. I find it difficult to sleep when it is very hot and particularly when it is humid - your menu for the week sounds delicious.

  4. Might as well be hot here. My windows are closed because of the damn cicadas, and it gets mighty stuffy and humid by morning. I'm grumpy, as you can tell. They start in about 3 am, and it's getting old. No relief until 4th of July, I hear.

  5. I'm grumpy, too. When I looked at the weather app this afternoon it said "feels like 110". My garden beds and deck plants look as droopy as I feel. I can't stand being cooped up in the house like this. It's summer! One should be able to enjoy being outside!
And then there are the bugs. I have so many "red bug bites" (diagnosed by the neighbors, oblivious to Deep Woods Off) there are bites on top of bites!

    1. I use Avon's Skin So Soft Sunscreen and it repels everything but Deerfly.

  6. I can't tell you how glad I am that I don't live in the South - not in the summer months anyway. The rest of the year it would be great:) Hope you sleep better tonight.

  7. It sounds like you stay inside like we do in the winter! We are cool barely 62 degrees today. My kind of weather! :)

  8. Goodness gracious that is just horrible.
I have to run my air at night. I keep it on all the time. My contractor said letting the house get hot and then try cooling it off takes more electricity. Have you looked into solar ? I will be getting solor soon. Arizona gives great rebates. Maybe your state does also ?
Since I have such a hard time sleeping I need the cool air at night.
I could never live here without my air.
We are having the monsoon starting again humid with 112 to 116 here the rest of the week.
So happy I have the pond for all the animals. I will be buying bags of ice to put in them.
I will be setting up some umbrellas also for more shade.
Like you we need the rain.

Hope you get rain soon !
    cheers, parsnip

    1. We have a window air conditioner in our bedroom that we run at night, that way we're not cooling the whole house. Save a few bucks that way.

    2. You are so smart to have one. Great idea !
Not being able to sleep in hot weather always makes me grumpy.
Hope you get some rain soon.

  10. Salad is definitely the way to go isn't it. I remember the southern humidity, so horrid. I hate it here if we have a humid day, but nothing like you get! Hope you can stay cool today.

  11. Not sure I could live in a climate like that but it would certainly be salads for lunch!

  13. Sleeping is never easy in heat, humidity or mugginess ...
I think the idea of salads is an excellent one - hope you get to the marina for some shrimps

    Take care

    All the best Jan

  14. We've had a bit of all sorts of weather here, driving rain, cloud and hot sun. The weather hasn't made up its mind what it's doing so it's given us a little bit of everything. It's not been humid though. Hooray for salads.
    xx

  15. Hummmmm, well, my husband and I were fighting over the fleece today. Well, not fighting, we are very civilised... but I'd put the fleeces away because it's supposed to be summer, you know. It feels more like March!

  18. Would you like our rain? We have plenty to share! I'm sat here in my winter jumper and big woolly socks! Love the new header, almost makes me believe in summer...

  19. To me, yesterday felt like the hottest day we've had. At 9:30 pm is was still 89 degrees and HUMID! We had a thunderstorm and of course the Direct TV went out right in the middle of a tornado warning for our town! It never amounted to anything but we got 2 inches of rain. It's supposed to cool off for the weekend...hopefully for you all too! Hang in there!

  20. I think the heat with humidity (to me) is worse than the hot heat, if that makes sense. Its a sticky kind of feeling too. It is hard to sleep in that type of weather too, to find a comfortable spot. I just have a funny feeling it will be a hot summer all around, so we might as well prepare ourselves for it the best we can :)
