The Day After

The Trick or Treaters who came in the golf cart caravan were the only one we got all night.  So now I have a bowl of candy even though I was very generous in giving the candy out.
A question for those of you out there who use Safari, since I downloaded  the latest version of this I can no long scroll down on Amazon when looking at lists of  things.  So I had to download Firefox and use it when shopping on Amazon.  What a pain.
I'm trying to donate a couch and having problems.  Goodwill flat won't take furniture and the Salvation Army will take it, but I'm having trouble scheduling a pick-up.
I'm wondering if my neighborhood is going to have a yard sale this fall, I'd give the puppy away.  Mac ended up cutting the last one up and says he'd rather not do that again.  Don't want to use Craig's List, too many unsavory people use is.
The worst part of getting sick at our age is that it just takes so long to get your energy back.  Today is the first day I've done any real cleaning.  Yesterday before going to the doctor I made a new soup, Chicken/Corn Chowder.  It turned out well, but very rich, I definitely won't use as much butter in it the next time I make it.  And I truly made a mess of my stove, thank goodness it's easy to clean, I gave it a good going over this morning. The last stove we had I'm sure was designed by someone who never cooked,  it had all sorts of grooves and places to fill up with gunk.
To those who celebrate All Saints Day today or Dîa del Muerto  tomorrow hope you have a great day.

  1. Happy to hear you are feeling better. Yes, it does hang on longer when you're older and chances of a relapse.
Goodwill not so good anymore and higher prices from what I've heard. I bought my bed on craigslist, was a good, fair deal.
I wish my stove was easier to clean - we have one of the black tops and it almost seems as hard to clean up as the old one with regular burners.
    Have a good day!

  2. I used to use Safari on my Mac but found that quite a few sites did not accept it e.g. Picmonkey for example. Now I use Firefox for everything.
Hope you soon feel better and get your energy back. It is true that as you get older an illness can be a real setback.

  3. I did manage to have The Salvation Army come and take my couch, love seat and chair. On the scheduling form I mentioned we would need help getting them out of the house and onto the truck! They came as scheduled ( 2 hour window) and even called that morning.... they did look at the furniture to make sure it was " good enough"! And the two men did all the hauling... we just watched ( being seniors lol).

  6. I gave up Firefox years ago, when it let in some dreadful virus. I hear it's a front runner again, these days. We have a local service that picks up unwanted household items, up to and including furniture. From the curb, on regular trash day. If you had them, you could put in the candy, too.

  7. Hi Janet. I had a similar problem awhile back when trying to access a form on American Express. I finally used the Chrome browser and it worked! I'm not a computer tech so it was much on my part. Enjoy your day, Pat xx

  8. We are lucky here in Phoenix. Every quarter you can put out bulky trash that the city (who runs the trash service) will pick up. There's limitations; can't put out dirt, concrete, appliances, etc., but its a good way to get rid of things. Fun thing is to watch people put out things and then watch the scavengers come and pick through what they want.

    That soup does sound delicious!

  10. I ended up with all my Halloween sweeties left too, we were hospital visiting so we missed any callers at our door. I leave all the cooker cleaning to Mick, he's so good and does it without any moans or groans, even when it's me who's made a mess of it.

  11. It's not as much fun getting older as I thought! Regarding donations of furniture, I just donated a huge armchair to a charity. Wondered if you had charity shops where you live.

  12. We recently got rid of a sofa, we tried one or two charitiea and an upholsterer to see if he knew of any workshops for disabled or unemployed where they could use it to learn a skill, we didn't want any money for it. No one wanted it and the local council charged for collection and you had to leave it outside so we took it to pieces and took it in bits to the refuse site, seems a shame though Hope you feel well again soon:)

  14. Some charities may pick up furniture if it is clean and usable. In our small local town 14 miles away you just have to call and schedule a pick up. I use Chrome, I find it serves me well much better than other browsers:)

  15. I wonder if you put the couch out by the curb with a free sign on it. Goodwill isn't that good anymore, I agree. Was just talking to a friend about that very thing this past weekend. Glad you are feeling better.
